Daily Journey: Day 196

Anxiety Shows You Where Trust Gets Thin

Scripture (ESV)
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” — Psalm 56:3

We already looked at anxiety as the weight of trying to live tomorrow before it gets here. There’s another layer worth dealing with now. Anxiety often shows us exactly where trust becomes difficult.

David doesn’t say, “Because I trust God, I never get afraid.” He says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” I think that distinction matters. Trust isn’t proven by the absence of anxiety. Sometimes trust is the decision you make while anxiety is still sitting there.

I’ve had moments when what I really wanted wasn’t peace. I wanted certainty. I wanted to know the situation would turn out the way I hoped. But certainty and trust are not the same thing. If I already knew the outcome, there wouldn’t be much trust involved.

Anxiety can expose the places where we want an answer more than we want God. That exposure isn’t condemnation. It gives us somewhere honest to meet Him.

Why this matters
Feeling anxious doesn’t automatically mean you’ve failed spiritually. It may be showing you the exact place where trust needs to move from theory into real life.

Reflection
What uncertainty is showing you where trust feels hardest right now?

Word of the Day
Anxiety: The inner conflict that surfaces when uncertainty presses against trust in God.
