Daily Journey: Day 14

Trusting God With What We Cannot Control

“The LORD has established his throne in the heavens.” — Psalm 103:19 (ESV)

Control is tempting because it feels responsible.

If I manage everything, maybe nothing will fall apart.

If I anticipate every outcome, maybe I won’t be surprised.

If I stay vigilant, maybe I can prevent loss.

But control quietly replaces trust.

Scripture consistently invites us to a different posture — providence.

Providence means God is actively governing the world with wisdom and care, even when we cannot see it.

That doesn’t eliminate responsibility.

It redefines it.

We act faithfully within our limits — and release what lies beyond them.

When we forget providence, anxiety grows. When we remember it, perspective returns.

Trusting God with what we cannot control doesn’t mean disengaging.

It means refusing to carry what was never ours.

Why This Matters

Control narrows our lives.

Trust widens them.

Providence allows us to work, love, lead, and rest without pretending we are in charge of outcomes.

Reflection for Today

What am I trying to control right now out of fear?

What would it look like to trust God’s care instead?

Word of the Day

Providence (PROV-ih-dence) — God’s wise and caring governance of all things.
