Daily Journey: Day 76

You Can Be Around God and Still Not Be Close

Scripture (ESV)

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” — James 4:8

I’ve had seasons where I was doing all the right things — reading, praying, showing up, leading — and still felt a kind of distance I couldn’t explain. Not because God moved, but because something in me was off.

You can be around spiritual things and not actually be close to God. That’s a hard truth, especially for people who know how to function inside faith environments. You can talk the language, lead well, even help other people, and still realize something is missing underneath it.

Closeness isn’t activity. It’s not volume. It’s not how much you’re doing. It’s whether you’re actually present with Him.

And if I’m honest, I’ve had moments where I was moving fast enough that I didn’t even notice the distance building. It wasn’t rebellion. It was just drift. Slow, subtle, easy to justify.

Closeness requires slowing down enough to actually be with God, not just work for Him or talk about Him.

Why this matters

You can stay busy in faith and still drift relationally. And when that happens, everything else starts running on form instead of life.

Reflection

Where have I been around God… but not actually close?

Word of the Day

Closeness — real nearness to God, not just activity around Him.
