Daily Journey: Day 19
God Works Over Time
“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.” — Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
One of the hardest things for people to trust is time.
We want change now.
Clarity now.
Relief now.
But God’s work is rarely rushed.
Scripture consistently presents formation as a process — not a moment. God works through seasons, repetition, patience, and perseverance. He is not in a hurry to produce results, because He is committed to forming people.
This can be frustrating if we expect instant transformation. But it becomes comforting once we understand what God is doing.
God is not managing behavior.
He is shaping being.
Growth unfolds gradually because depth requires time. Roots grow underground long before fruit appears above the surface. And much of God’s most important work happens quietly, unseen, and slowly.
When we forget this, we interpret delay as failure. We assume we’re stuck. We question whether anything is really changing.
But time is not a problem for God.
It is one of His tools.
Trusting God over time frees us from panic. It allows us to show up faithfully without demanding immediate evidence. It teaches us to value consistency over intensity.
God is far more patient with us than we are with ourselves.
Why This Matters
When we expect instant results:
• discouragement grows quickly
• faith becomes fragile
• effort feels wasted
When we trust God’s timing:
• perseverance strengthens
• hope stabilizes
• formation becomes steady
God finishes what He starts — but He finishes it faithfully, not hurriedly.
Reflection for Today
Where have I been impatient with God’s timing in my life?
What would it look like to trust Him with the long process?
Process shapes freedom.
