Daily Journey: Day 170
Walking Is Where It Gets Real
Scripture (ESV)
“Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” — Galatians 5:16
Walking doesn’t sound impressive. That’s probably the point. Paul doesn’t say sprint by the Spirit. He doesn’t say perform by the Spirit. He doesn’t say have one powerful moment by the Spirit and call it maturity.
He says walk.
Walking is daily. Step after step. Ordinary movement in a real direction. That’s where so much of the Christian life actually happens. Not in the dramatic moment, but in the next step after the dramatic moment is gone.
To walk by the Spirit means your life is learning a different pace and direction. You’re not just trying to avoid sin by willpower. You’re moving with the Spirit in such a way that the desires of the flesh no longer get to dictate every step.
This is where alignment and practice become concrete. You don’t become formed by admiring the path. You walk it. You do the next faithful thing. Then the next. Then the next. And over time, the direction starts shaping the person.
Why this matters
If faith never becomes a walk, it’ll stay mostly in your thoughts and intentions. But when you walk by the Spirit, formation begins showing up in the direction, pace, and pattern of your actual life.
Reflection
What is the next faithful step God is asking you to take today?
