Dependence Has to Become Practice

Scripture (ESV)

“Abide in me, and I in you… apart from me you can do nothing.” — John 15:4–5

Earlier in this journey, dependence meant facing the truth that God is the source and you are not. That was foundational. You had to stop trying to be God. You had to name your limits. You had to come back to creaturely reality.

But now dependence has to become practice. Not just a doctrine you agree with. Not just something you say when life feels too big. Actual dependence. The kind that shows up in prayer before action, Scripture before reaction, rest before collapse, asking for help before pretending, and returning to God before running on fumes.

That is where dependence gets real. Because most of us believe we are dependent in theory while still living independently in rhythm. We say, “Apart from Me you can do nothing,” but then we try to do almost everything with Jesus as background support.

Jesus does not present abiding as decoration. He presents it as life. Branches do not visit the vine once in a while for inspiration. They live connected or they dry out. That is not motivational language. That is reality.

Why this matters

If dependence stays theoretical, you will keep living from your own limited supply. But when dependence becomes practice, your life begins to draw from the source instead of constantly running on strain.
