Daily Journey: Day 163
Consistency Is Not Perfection
Scripture (ESV)
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
Consistency gets misunderstood because people confuse it with never missing. That’s not consistency. That’s perfection wearing workout clothes.
Consistency isn’t never falling off. It’s returning to the practice enough times that the pattern keeps holding. You pray again. You repent again. You open the Word again. You apologize again. You show up again. Not because yesterday was flawless, but because God is still worthy today.
This is where perfectionism kills practice. If consistency means an unbroken streak, then one missed day becomes an excuse to quit. But if consistency means faithful return, then failure doesn’t get the final word.
Paul says not to grow weary in doing good. That assumes weariness will come. It assumes the practice won’t always feel alive. Still, there’s a harvest for those who don’t give up. Not for those who never struggle. For those who keep returning.
Why this matters
If consistency means perfection to you, shame will interrupt formation every time you miss. But when consistency becomes faithful return, your life can keep growing without needing a flawless record.
Reflection
Where have you let one break in consistency convince you to stop returning?
Word of the Day
Consistency: The practice of faithful return over time, even when the pattern has been interrupted.
