Daily Journey: Day 207
Guilt Should Take You Somewhere
Scripture (ESV)
“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret…” — 2 Corinthians 7:10
Guilt is not always the enemy. If you did something wrong, feeling the weight of it can be appropriate. Something should register when we hurt someone or cross a line.
But guilt is supposed to move.
Paul says godly grief leads to repentance. That means guilt has a direction. It should bring you toward confession, ownership, and repair where repair is possible. It was never meant to become a permanent place to live.
Some of us keep punishing ourselves after we have already confessed because suffering feels like proof that we are taking the sin seriously. But ongoing self-punishment is not the same thing as repentance.
Why this matters
Healthy guilt points toward responsibility. Unhealthy guilt keeps demanding payment after grace has already opened a different path.
Reflection
Is your guilt leading you toward repentance, or are you using it to keep punishing yourself?
Word of the Day
