Daily Journey: Day 116
You Are Not the Center of What You See
Scripture (ESV)
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” — Psalm 119:18
Earlier, awareness meant seeing what was happening clearly. You were learning to notice your reactions, your patterns, your tone, your drift, and the way things were moving inside you before they came out of you.
That still matters. But at this point, awareness has to become spiritual. Not less practical. More practical. Because you are not just becoming aware of yourself. You are becoming awake to God’s presence, God’s Word, God’s correction, and what He is making plain.
There is a kind of leadership that is very aware of the room but not aware of God. It reads people, pressure, opportunity, conflict, and risk, but it misses the deeper question: What is true before the Lord right now? That kind of leadership may be sharp, but it is not yet wise.
Spiritual awareness keeps you from becoming the center of your own discernment. You still pay attention to what is happening, but you are not reading life as if God is absent. You are asking Him to open your eyes, because you know you can look directly at truth and still miss the wonder.
Why this matters
If awareness stays centered only on yourself and the situation, you may become perceptive without becoming faithful. But when spiritual awareness forms, you begin to see your life, decisions, and leadership before God.
Reflection
Are you mostly aware of yourself and the room, or are you becoming more aware of God in the middle of it?
Word of the Day
Awareness: Spiritual wakefulness to God’s presence, Word, correction, and activity in the middle of real life.
