Daily Journey: Day 205

Shame Tries to Rename You

Scripture (ESV)

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1

Shame does more than tell you something went wrong. It tells you that what went wrong is now the truest thing about you.

That is why shame sticks. You stop saying, “I failed,” and start believing, “I am a failure.” The action becomes an identity.

The gospel does not deal with shame by pretending sin was no big deal. It deals with sin honestly and still refuses to let sin have the final word over the person who belongs to Christ.

Romans 8 says there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. That does not erase responsibility. It changes the verdict.

Why this matters

Shame keeps people hiding because it turns failure into identity. Grace tells the truth about what happened without surrendering your name to it.

Reflection

What failure are you still allowing to define you?

Word of the Day

Shame: The belief that sin or failure has become the defining truth about who you are.

“There is therefore now no condemnation…” — Romans 8:1 (ESV)
