Devotion Is the Lean of the Heart

Scripture (ESV)

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” — Proverbs 4:23

Earlier, devotion meant what gets your love. Then it became the direction of your life. Here, it goes deeper still. Devotion is also the inward lean of the heart.

You can do the right thing with the wrong posture. You can obey while resenting it. You can serve while needing to be noticed. You can stay in the room while your heart has already left it.

That is why God keeps pressing beneath behavior. He is not only asking what you did. He is exposing what your heart was leaning toward while you did it.

Devotion at this level is not intensity. It is openness. Teachable instead of defensive. Grateful instead of entitled. Soft enough to be corrected. Honest enough to return.

Why this matters

If your heart stays turned away while your behavior looks right, the outside will eventually crack. But when the heart leans toward God, obedience becomes more than appearance.
