Holiness Is Not Weirdness
Scripture (ESV)
“…as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.” — 1 Peter 1:15
Holiness has been made strange in a lot of people’s minds. Some hear the word and think it means being stiff, distant, awkward, overly religious, or disconnected from real life. Like the holier you are, the less human you become.
That is not holiness. That is just weirdness with spiritual language.
Holiness means belonging to God. Set apart for Him. Brought under His character, His truth, His ways, and His life. It does not make you less human. It makes you more rightly human, because sin is what deforms us, not holiness.
Peter says to be holy in all your conduct. That means holiness does not stay in theory. It touches how you speak, what you tolerate, how you lead, how you spend, what you desire, how you handle conflict, what you laugh at, and what you make peace with. All your conduct means all your conduct.
And holiness is not you trying to become impressive. It is God claiming the whole life. Not just your church life. Not just your public life. The whole thing.
Why this matters
If holiness becomes weirdness, you will either avoid it or perform it. But when holiness is understood as belonging wholly to God, it becomes the shape of a life being restored to what it was made for.
