Daily Journey: Day 68

You Can’t Change What You Won’t Notice

Scripture (ESV)

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” — Proverbs 4:23

One thing I’ve had to learn — and honestly I’m still learning it — is how easy it is to move through a full day without actually paying attention to what’s going on inside me. You can be busy, productive, getting things done, even doing good things, and still be completely unaware of what’s building under the surface.

Thoughts are running, pressure is there, you’re carrying things, but none of it is really being named. It just sits in the background, and over time it starts leaking out into how you respond to everything else. Then something small happens and your reaction feels bigger than it should, and now you’re trying to figure out why you’re off.

Most of the time, it didn’t start in that moment. It started earlier. You just didn’t catch it.

That’s why awareness matters. Not in some over complicated way, just in a real way — slowing down enough to actually see what’s going on in your thoughts, your emotions, even your body before it starts running your decisions.

I’ve had plenty of moments where I was already off and just kept moving. Didn’t stop. Didn’t check it. And then I ended up making a decision I had to come back and clean up later.

Awareness gives you that window. It doesn’t fix everything, but it gives you a shot to catch it earlier. And yeah, it takes practice. You don’t just wake up aware. You learn it by stopping, checking, and coming back over and over again.

Why this matters

If you don’t notice what’s happening inside you, it will start making decisions for you. Once you see it, you at least have a chance to respond differently.

Reflection

What’s been going on inside me lately that I’ve just been pushing past?

Word of the Day

Awareness — noticing what’s happening internally before it starts shaping your reactions.
