Daily Journey: Day 93
You Actually Listened
Scripture (ESV)
“Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.” — 1 Samuel 3:9
Most of the time, when we think we’re listening, we’re not. We’re waiting. Waiting to respond, waiting to explain, waiting to move things forward. But we’re not actually taking in what’s being said.
And it’s the same with God. We say we’re listening, but internally we’re still moving. Still forming thoughts, still trying to stay ahead, still deciding what we’re going to do next.
But then there are moments where that stops. You’re not rushing to respond. You’re not trying to shape the outcome. You’re actually listening. Not just hearing words, but receiving what’s being said.
That takes humility. Because real listening means you don’t control the direction. You don’t decide what comes next. You allow yourself to be led, not just informed.
And when that’s happening before God, it’s not vague. It’s not mystical. It’s grounded. You’re listening through His Word, through what’s being revealed, through what is already true. You’re not trying to create something new—you’re receiving what is already being given.
Why this matters
If you don’t actually listen, you’ll keep operating off your own assumptions. But when you begin to truly listen before God, your decisions start to align with what is real instead of what you think is best.
Reflection
When you say you’re listening, are you actually receiving—or just waiting to respond?
Word of the Day
