Daily Journey: Day 86

You Didn’t Just See It – You Weighed It

Scripture (ESV)

“The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer…” — Proverbs 15:28

There’s a difference between seeing something and actually doing something with what you see. You can notice a reaction, recognize a pattern, even feel the shift happening in you, and still move right past it like it didn’t matter.

But then there are moments where you don’t move on so quickly. You feel it rise, and instead of letting it carry you, you stay with it long enough to weigh it. Not casually. Not halfway. You actually slow down and ask, “What is this?” Not just what you feel, but what’s really happening in you.

That’s where deliberation begins. And it’s uncomfortable, because now you don’t get to hide behind speed anymore. You saw it, and now you’re responsible for what you do with it. You don’t get to blame the moment, the person, or the pressure. You’re in it, and you’re choosing how you respond.

And this doesn’t happen in a vacuum. You’re not just sorting through your thoughts—you’re weighing them before God. What’s rising in you is being held up against what is actually true, not just what feels right in the moment. And that’s where things start to shift. Not perfectly, but clearly.

Why this matters
If you never slow down long enough to weigh what’s happening inside you, your reactions will keep leading your life. But when you begin to deliberately examine what rises in you before God, your responses start to change from the inside out.

Reflection
When something rises in you, do you move past it—or do you actually take responsibility for it?

Word of the Day
Deliberation (dih-lib-uh-RAY-shun): The act of carefully weighing what is happening before responding, in light of what is true.
