Daily Journey: Day 201

Ego Makes Too Much About You

Scripture (ESV)

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.” — Proverbs 27:2

Ego has a way of making you the center of things that were never really about you. Somebody disagrees with you, and it feels like disrespect. Somebody else succeeds, and somehow it changes how you feel about yourself. You stop dealing with what actually happened because you’re too busy dealing with what you think it says about you.

That’s why ego can be hard to see. It isn’t always arrogance. Sometimes it just means your own image has become too important. You’re watching how you’re being received instead of paying attention to what is true.

God never asked you to manage your importance in every room. You don’t have to keep proving your value. That is a heavy way to live, and it makes other people harder to see clearly.

Why this matters

Ego bends reality back toward the self. Freedom starts when you stop making every room explain who you are.

Reflection

Where are you taking something personally that may not actually be about you?

Word of the Day

Ego: The self becoming too central in the way you interpret people, situations, and your own worth.

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth…” — Proverbs 27:2 (ESV)
