Daily Journey: Day 178

Repentance Has to Become Practice

Scripture (ESV)

“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” — Acts 3:19

Repentance returns here as practice, not just the first turn toward God. You can’t talk about formation without talking about turning. But repentance can’t stay only at the front door of the Christian life.

It has to become part of the walk.

That doesn’t mean living in constant panic, always digging around for something to feel guilty about. That’s not repentance. That’s anxiety with religious language.

Repentance is the practiced willingness to turn when God shows you that you’re not aligned. Sometimes it’s a major turning. Sometimes it’s small and immediate. A tone. A thought. A hidden motive. A pattern you’re protecting. A direction you know is starting to drift.

The mercy is that God doesn’t only call us to repent once and then leave us stuck with everything that still needs to be formed. He keeps bringing truth to bear on the life. He keeps calling us back. Repentance becomes the road of return, not just the memory of a first turn.

Why this matters

If repentance stays occasional, drift will become normal before you name it. But when repentance becomes practice, returning to God becomes quicker, cleaner, and less buried under shame.

Reflection

Where is God asking you to turn now, not someday?

Word of the Day
